Bicycle "Eaglet" - the dream of every Soviet teenager

For girls and boys different models were produced: "Erelukas" with a double top pipe for young people and "Krezhdute" for lovely ladies. The obvious Baltic accent in the names of these models is not accidental, because the legendary bicycle "Eaglet" was born at the Siauliai plant "Vairas". This plant is famous for its engines for mopeds.

What was the "Eaglet" bicycle for the schoolboySoviet era? It was a status, pride, a conviction that "life is beautiful". It was easy for him to climb up the hill with speed, breeze along the village road, catching the admiring glances of his peers.

To have a bicycle "Eaglet", the photo of which you see in this article, and not some primitive "Schoolboy", was just as prestigious as having insets from a foreign chewing gum.

I must say that in those days, not allbecame happy owners of "great", so the one who so smiled fate, should be prepared for the fact that "horseless" friends will ask to ride a new bike, make a circle around the yard. It was impossible to refuse. This was considered an act reprehensible and even indecent.

I must say that in the Soviet Union they have always lovedand very reverent attitude to the word "Eaglet". This name was given to all the best: the pioneer camp, the ringing song, the best bicycle in the world. It was a symbol of the era. Legendary bicycle "Eaglet" was the only model of a non-lethal type, fit in size for high school students. For many, he became a voucher in the life of an adult cyclist.

Children's bicycles "Eaglet" were a transitionalstage from a two-wheel model for schoolchildren-babies ("Breeze") to bicycles for adults. That's why he was so common among teenagers of that time. He symbolized the beginning of familiarizing with "adult" bicycles. "Eaglet" was the same class as "Schoolboy", but was at a higher level, leaving far behind its competitors.

It is interesting that today there is a communityfans of bicycles produced in the Soviet Union. These fans of rare models jokingly call themselves "crocodiles". Their main goal is to find and buy old bicycles and bring them into working order.
