From the school bench, we all know where thenorth and how cold it is. But there are territories that are called "regions of the Far North." They are located beyond the Arctic Circle, where there are forest-tundra, tundra and the Arctic zone with a very severe climate, in which it is not so easy to acclimatise. In the vast territory of our country in some regions there are areas that, in their natural and climatic characteristics, are equated with the conditions in which the regions of the Far North are located. For example, Ulagan and Kosh-Agach administrative regions in the Altai Republic, located in the high-mountain zone and the distribution of permafrost.

North of Russia is known for its harsh climate, forliving and working in which you need to have excellent health. The peculiarities of the natural conditions and climate of this territory include: extremely low winter air temperature, severe and prolonged winter, cold short summer, ultraviolet deficiency, photoperiodicity (duration of day and night). This can also include light fasting in the polar night and light excess in the polar day, oxygen starvation and rarefied air, sudden jumps in the values ​​of humidity and temperatures, atmospheric pressure. Here, geomagnetic and gravitational perturbations are strongly pronounced, the influence of the cosmos is adversely affected.

All listed factors, as well as forcedreduction in motor activity, frequent and prolonged flights (with the shift work method), periodic climate change reduce the efficiency, immunity and health of people coming to the Far North. This is most often manifested in the person's acquisition of cardiovascular diseases, hormonal and metabolic disorders. According to the doctors, it takes several years to adapt a newcomer to the northern climate.

Medical examination of employees is carried out periodically. In the north, mainly working people are in demand: truck drivers and special vehicles, drillers, welders. To work in the northern conditions, the pregnant women and mothers with children under three years of age, guardians of underage children, male fathers engaged in the upbringing of children without a mother, as well as those who do not meet the age requirement, are not allowed to work on a rotational basis.

Benefits for working in the Far North

For all able-bodied northerners residing thereconstantly or working shifts, a number of privileges have been established at the legislative level, divided into 2 groups. Benefits of the first group are cash payments for severe natural and climatic conditions of the territories where the regions of the Far North of Russia are located. Such benefits include: increased district coefficient, monthly and growing with the length of the salary increment, surcharges for temporary incapacity for work, additional leave, benefits to pensions, benefits for entry into a housing construction cooperative. The privileges of the second group are used only by workers of a certain category who moved north due to a public appeal with the conclusion of a contract of employment for a period of 3 years (or 2 years if the labor activity takes place on the island territory of the Arctic Ocean). This group of benefits includes: compensation for relocation, reimbursement of costs for returning to the place of former residence at the end of the employment contract, a one-time benefit in case of renewal of the contract for another period, booking of housing at the place of former residence, benefits for calculating the length of service at retirement. Some of these benefits will also be used by family members working. In an employment contract, the employer may also specify other benefits.
