The origin of the breed of braziliero is for certain unknown. However, there are several versions of the history of its appearance.

According to the first version, the breed was formed inthe result of crossing a bulldog, an English mastiff and a bloodhound. This point of view has a rational grain and is not devoid of meaning. After all, some characteristic features of these three breeds can be clearly seen both in the exterior and in the working qualities of the dog.

According to another version, their ancestors are molosses brought to Brazil by the Spanish and Portuguese conquistadors. As a result of the mixing of these dogs with the local ones, a breed of braziliero appeared.

The official International Standardcynological federation (FCI No. 225) clearly describes all the necessary parameters that determine the exterior, character and other properties of the Brazilian filo breed. According to this document, these dogs are typical Molossians with a strong bone and excellent proportions. A massive body does not interfere with the mobility of the animal. In the standard, two important proportions are indicated:

  • the skull is longer than the muzzle;
  • the length of the body (the distance from the protruding bone of the chest to the pelvis) is 10% higher than the height at the withers.

The dog's head is massive, proportionalbody, the skull is wide. The stop is almost invisible. A drooping upper lip beautifully covers the lower one. Bite straight or scissor-shaped. The dog's eyes can be either medium-sized or large. The form is almond-shaped. Eye color varies from yellow to brown.
