Guitar Chords for Beginners

In this article I want to talk about the main chords on the guitar, how to put them, why they are needed, and much, much more.

What are chords in general? Any tutorials, guitar lessons and other lessons contain a part where you need to learn chords. But rarely does anyone talk about why they need to be studied, can they do without them and what is it altogether.

Chords - a certain arrangement of fingers on the fretboard of the guitar (neck - the longest partguitars, the place where you need to pinch the strings with your fingers) to get a specific sound. Depending on how we put our fingers (squeeze the strings), this or that sound will turn out. This very statement of fingers is called a chord. Simply put, each chord has its own production.

Why do you need chords?

Any song or music we hearevery day, there are patterns in sound. Imagine any color drawing - it consists of color pixels, but the primary colors are only seven (the colors of the rainbow). By combining these colors and putting them in a certain pattern, we draw a picture. It's the same with music, songs. We have certain notes (sounds) that we combine and create this very music. So the chords for the songs are the same as the colors for the picture. Chords are a tool for creating music.

How many chords are there?

To the question "How many chords there are" you will not be answered by any of the teachers and guitar professionals for several reasons:

  1. Nobody counts chords and does not try to learn them all. For a good guitar playing, about 20 chords are enough.
  2. Chords can not be counted, because each time some special positions of the fingers on the fretboard are added.
  3. After studying the main chords you should go deep, learn other techniques of the game, stop on the chords does not make sense.

In my opinion, the chords on the guitar are about a thousand.

Chords for Beginners

Let's analyze with you, which chords for beginners are most important and useful.

Basic guitar chords. The basic chords on the guitar I would call thosechords that need to be taught primarily to beginners - and after studying them, you could immediately play a large number of songs. To the basic chords I include the trio of "thieves' chords" - chords Am, Dm, E, and a few more: chords C, G, A (often used in choruses). These chords I would call basic - they need to be taught in 10 cases out of 10. As an example here I gave an analysis of how to play and play a G chord for beginners.

Which strings are to be clamped in order to put a chord?

When the chord Am is clamped, 2 strings on the first fret, 3 and 4 string on the second.

With the Dm chord, three strings are clamped in different modes: 1 string per 1, 2 strings for 3, 3 strings for 2.

The chord E is similar to the chord Am - frets are the same, but one string is higher: 3 strings for 1, 4 strings for 2, 5 strings for 2.

Chord C is one of the most difficult for beginners, because four fingers are used at once (unlike other basic chords): 2 strings for 1, 4 strings for 2, 5 and 6 strings for 3.

The chord G is simple enough - 1 and 6 strings for 3, 5 strings for 2.

Chord A is generally easy to remember - 2, 3 and 4 strings for 2 fret.

The main chords on the guitar. To the main chords, I would refer the chords thatalso one way or another will have to learn if you are going to reach any heights when playing the guitar. This includes, of course, the basic chords (paragraph above), but also adds chords H7, Em, D and a few barre chords: F, Hm, Cm, Gm.

Barre chords. A special layer among the chords are the chordsbarre. They differ from traditional ones in that when staging one finger should clamp several strings at once (most often all or 4-5). The most important (main) barre-chord is a chord F, so if you want to play something more serious than chastushkas, you definitely have to learn it. Learn More here.

In this way, chords for beginners include: chords Am, Dm, E, C, G, A, H7, Em, D, F - theirexactly ten. If it was my will, I would even call them the top ten chords for beginners. This is the base, this is the basis of anyone playing the guitar. Without the knowledge of these chords to play the guitar is practically not possible.

Well, I think I introduced you to everything thatone way or another concerns chords - and if you are a beginning guitarist, now you know exactly where to start and what you need to learn first. And I can only wish you success, good luck in this endeavor!
